Application Letter

The job application letter contains five basic sections: The heading, inside address, salutation, body, and closing.
The heading includes your complete home address and the date.
The inside address is the address to which the letter will be sent. Always address your letter to a specific individual with his or her correct title. In most cases, the job advertisement will list a contact person, along with the appropriate title. If a person's name is the only information given, call the company and ask what the person's title is. If no name is listed, call and ask for the name of the department head or personnel director. Make sure you spell all names and titles correctly.
For the salutation, use only the name of the contact person. If you are responding to an ad giving only a post office box number, list the information given as the inside address, skip the salutation, and go on to the body of your letter.
The body is the most important section of the letter. Before you begin writing this section, analyze the job ad closely and identify the specific qualifications the position requires. Compile a list of the training and/or experience you have had which fulfills these job requirements. Group you strongest qualifications into one or two general topics (i.e., experience, personal interests, education, etc.) which best demonstrate your suitability for this job.
The body usually consists of four paragraphs. In the first paragraph, identify the job you are applying for and your source of information about the job (i.e., newspaper, placement agency, company newsletter, campus placement office, etc.). In addition, introduce your general topics. In the second paragraph;, explain why you are suited for the job by expanding on your topics.
Briefly describe your training and experience, focusing on your strongest qualifications. Be sure to give specific, concrete details about your knowledge of equipment, languages, software, office procedures, etc. In additions, refer the reader to your enclosed resume. In the third paragraph, connect yourself to the employer. Explain why you want to work for this particular company and what you can do for it.
In the final paragraph, politely state that you would appreciate the opportunity to be interviewed. Include a phone number or numbers where the interviewer can reach you or leave a message for you. Also thank the reader for his or her time and consideration.
In general, use phrases such as Sincerely or Sincerely yours for the closing. Space down four lines and type your full name. If your are enclosing material with you application letter, space down two more lines. Type Enc.: and briefly state what you are enclosing (i.e., resume). Tobe Continued

Comment please, but no spam !!!

AreTranslators still needed?

Indonesian Translator’s Perspective

For some established professional translators ‘selling out’ or in this case ‘going really cheap’ means degrading oneself to the point that one must educated the public on what a good translation versus a bad one is. Unfortunately, selling out or going really cheap, for a rookie, newcomer in the field, it is a –must do— attitude in the hope of getting some and possibly more work or clientele. This outlook, selling out, an attitude disadvantageous for the established translators in the translation industry, is an opening or gap in the customers mind for which customer education is essential and must be revealed out in the open by those established professionals.

Why would one say that? Well, it is expected that by cultivating a better understanding and a better positioning provided by an opinion based on research, investigation, study an outcome shall grow, ready and willing to exhaust the cash outflow to the fullest. Whether a seminar, conference or an intelligent article, books etc, the customers are lectured, lead on to believe to a product of high quality, which must or should be likely to be. A customer shall be oriented to point and choose the best provider not on the basis of rates but on other measurable constraints. Of course one expects that these constraints be of objective in manner.

Accordingly, what’s a good high quality translation then? Linguists, experts and the like in the field have many ways to set the standards, benchmark, point of reference to what a good, understandable, high quality translation is. All of them requires the average person, a layman to force the grey cells to a maximum and then to raise an eyebrow and ultimately utter, “so what!”

In this day and age, one and the most prevalent way of measuring a high quality product or service to the best of my knowledge and in this case translation, literally, is the most expensive value in hard cash and to a person requiring a translation service, a good translation translates to her or his needs which in this case, simply put is the cash. Simple or is it not?

At any rate, if the budget is tight, then the lowest price is obtained. On the other hand, if the budget is enormous, which I doubt, (so convince me otherwise people), then the translator or translators with the best credentials, accreditation, experience etc. and in this case the right price, shall have the greatest prospect and possibility of getting the work completed. The establish person or individual shall have with him or her sense of satisfaction, pride and superiority that the work, effort is a well worth job done.

Let me story-tell an obtuse but objective chronicle, at least for me:

Long ago, in a land far away, there lived a community of specialist in their field. One day, a stranger who arrived at this unusual place wanted to contract his needs to a specialist, therefore a demand was created. This individual then browsed around for a supplier. After some time investigating and the effort spent were not wasted, the stranger was recommended to go to specialist A. At the appointed place the stranger asked specialist A for the services, A asked for a quotation, the demand’s range for specialist A was to low, and was not specialist A’s liking, fortunately, this network of specialists had an elevated excellence of ethics, since there wasn’t a meeting point of demand and supply, specialist A suggested specialist B, the same thing happened to specialist B. This chain of events ended up to specialist Z. A miracle had happened a transaction was met. The demand and supply coincided. The stranger felt happy and pleased. At last, the job was congregated and done. The stranger went about on the journey with a story to tell to the rest of the world. language

To sum up, all translators will go this path whether they like it or not. It’s a fact of life. Or is it not?

JOB APPLICATION

Writing A Job Application
Letter

Write an application letter (also called a cover letter) to mail with your resume when you apply for a job. The resume is a summary of your job skills while an application letter persuades an employer to hire you for a job.
Goal:
The goal of an application letter is to get a job interview. You usually need an interview to get a job. Your letter should both interest and motivate an employer to interview you. Your letter should sound confident about your qualifications, but not sound bragging or pushy.

Parts of Application Letter:

Attract:
Attract your reader’s attention. Keep this first paragraph short (1-2 sentences). You can interest an employer in reading your letter by using various techniques: 1. Refer to someone the employer knows who has recommended you; 2.
Ask an attention-grabbing question related to the job; 3. Summarize (briefly) how your qualifications make you the right person for the job. 4. Persuade your reader that your qualifications will help with the future development of the business; or 5.
Show the reader you have the employee qualities the reader is looking for. You can also use your own attention-grabbing opening.

Link:
Use a linking sentence to connect your first paragraph with the body of your letter. For example, if you mentioned your job skills in your first paragraph, you could discuss your job skills in more detail in your second paragraph.
Persuade: The body (middle part of your letter) should persuade an employer to hire you because you are the right person for the job. Show your reader what you can do for the company and how you have the right job qualifications. The body of your letter should be from one (1) to three (3) paragraph long. To persuade an employer, you can talk more about one or more points in your resume, but don’t just repeat what’s in your resume. Don’t forget to refer to your enclosed resume in your letter.
Here are some reasons you can use to convince your reader:
1. Talk more about your qualifications for the job
2. Show your knowledge of the employer’s organization and its employee needs
3. Talk about your personal interest in working for organization
4. Talk more about your other skills and abilities not covered in your resume.

Interview Request:
Request an appointment for a job interview. Your request should be clear, polite, and short. Here are some sample requests:
Short-Distance Employer:
1. Can I meet with you to discuss specifically how
I can help your company? Please feel free to call me at —— to schedule an interview.
2. I am eager to discuss my interest in pediatric nursing with you. Therefore, please call me at ——— to schedule an interview.
Long-Distance Employer:
1. If my experience and skills interest you, Ms /Mr. ———, please write or call me collect at (808) ——— to schedule an interview.
2. I will be traveling to the Big Island in May of
1998. If you are interested in my qualifications, I would like to meet with you. You can contact me at (808) —— to arrange an interview.

Parts of Application Letter:
1. Reader: Address your letter to a particular person and address your reader as Mr. or Ms. —
——. Try to find out the name of the person you are writing to. If you can’t find out your reader’s name, then address your reader by his or her job title, such as “Personnel Manager.”
2. Heading: Date you send the letter and your name and address.
3. Inside address: Employer’s name and address.
4. Salutation: Dear Mr. or Ms. —— with a colon (:).
5. Body: Middle part of your letter. Single space lines in your paragraghs and double-space between paragraphs.
6. Closing/Signature lines: Close your letter with a pleasant-sounding sentence such as “Hope to hear from you soon.” Choose a standard signature line you can use, such as “Very truly yours,” or “Sincerely.”
Put “Enclosure” on the bottom of your letter to remind the reader that you have enclosed your resume.

Edit: Double-check your letter for spelling, grammar, punctuation, and typo’s before mailing out your final draft. Your final draft should be perfect to reflect the professional-image you want to give to an employer.
See the enclosed sample for formatting. Don’t Be Discouraged: Keep sending out your application letters, even if you don’t get an interview offer. It’s common not to get a response or to get a rejection letter. BUT REMEMBER: It only takes one good application letter to get your dream job.
